IKEA will soon be added to Sun Country Highway’s powerful and reliable Level II charger network, with the introduction of 60 amp EV charging stations to IKEA stores nationwide. IKEA has ensured that all of its Canadian customers will have the ability to travel to the store with zero tailpipe emissions and recharge their EV while shopping.

This commitment makes IKEA one of the first retailers in Canada to provide EV services at all locations.

“Installing electric vehicle charging stations at all IKEA Canada stores reinforces our commitment to sustainability,” said Stefan Sjostrand, President of IKEA Canada. “We are dedicated to addressing the global climate crisis and maximizing accessibility to our store locations, and we think this initiative is a step in the right direction on both fronts.”

The rollout will start in Quebec and is set for completion by end August 2015.

“The IKEA installation project sends a positive message to all Canadians and corporations. This project will help move the transportation industry forward and bring Canada a step closer to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. ” – Kent Rathwell, President Sun Country Highway.

IKEA is going all in to transform its business to ensure that it is fit for the future and will have a positive impact on the planet.  This includes going for 100% renewable energy, by investing in wind and solar power. As part of its commitment to sustainability, IKEA Canada has invested in a 46 megawatt wind farm in Alberta, almost 4,000 solar panels on the roofs of three Ontario stores, and houses Manitoba’s largest geothermal installation. IKEA has also globally pledged to become energy independent by 2020. In Canada, the retailer has more than achieved this goal in 2015 and has been named one of the country’s greenest employers for the 7th consecutive year.

“Sun Country Highway is very proud to be a part of this project. Nearly every business is aiming to brand themselves as a sustainability leader. IKEA has made a very significant step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.” – Christopher Misch, Vice President, COO – Sun Country Highway.
