E-mazing Race Contest Rules

E-mazing Race Rules and Regulations

Organized by Sun Country Sustainability Fund, a non-profit organization raising funds for free and accessible public EV infrastructure, the E-Mazing Race Contest (“Contest”) is a celebration of the world’s fastest Level 2 EV Chargers and a drive for economic, social and environmental sustainability. The purpose of the E-mazing Race is to generate awareness; demonstrate electric vehicles (EVs) and the Sun Country Highway EV Charging network and prove that renewable energies are a viable transportation alternative.

The Contest is a symbol of Canadian innovation and our social, economic and environmental stewardship. The Sun Country Highway charging stations are meant to complement existing transportation fuel sources, empower existing EV owners and enable further EV adoption.

The E-mazing Race demonstrates that we do not need to rely exclusively on governments to fund or deploy EV infrastructure projects. The E-mazing Race showcases what small but passionate groups with the right entrepreneurial spirit can do to drive the electric vehicle revolution. Sun Country Highway Ltd. (“Sun Country Highway”) is a major sponsor of the E-mazing Race.

E-Mazing Race Contest Rules

Contest Period:
E-mazing Race participants (“Participant(s)”) start collecting points for charger check-ins on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 1300 hours ADT. The E-mazing Race challenges Participants to collect as many points as possible before the end of the contest on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 1300 hours PDT. Participants are encouraged to start from the official launch location and unite at the finale celebration; but vehicles can start and finish anywhere in North America – collecting points during contest period (1300 hrs ADT, May 27, 2015 to 1300 hrs PDT, June 24, 2015).

Start Locations:
A registered vehicle can start from anywhere in North America. E-Mazing Race 2015 will hold one official starting line in Halifax, Nova Scotia. E-Mazing Race 2015 is partnering with Electric Mobility Canada (EMC) to officially launch the race from EMC’s EV2015VÉ Conference at The Westin Nova Scotian,1181 Hollis Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3H 2P6 Canada (Hotel Phone: 902-421-1000; The Westin Nova Scotian Hotel Reservations: 1-888-627-8553).

Participants are encouraged to gather at the official launch. Extra points are provided to racers who check-in at the start line. SCH chargers throughout Halifax and at EV2015VÉ will have higher point values.

Participants can also create their own events and local competitions to enjoy the race in a smaller format.

Staggered Starts:
All vehicles will be released at 5-minute intervals from the organized start locations. This will be based on a draw – selecting participant numbers out of a hat.

Eligibility:
The E-Mazing Race Contest (“Contest”) is open to all participants with a plug-in electric powered vehicle (“EV”) capable of charging with a J1772 connector. Plug-In hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will compete in a separate category against other PHEVs (examples include: Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius and Via Motors VTRUX).

Charging Stations:
Charging at all charging stations is on a first-come-first-serve basis. To reduce bottlenecks, participants driving EVs will have priority over PHEV participants at charging stations. This is critical to keep the event fair and flowing! We thank you for your cooperation.

Safety Above All Else:
Despite the Contest name, E-mazing Race is NOT a race but rather a rally touring across the continent. We encourage all Participants to operate their vehicles within the confines of the law and observe safe driving practices on public highways. Safety should always come first. E-mazing Race does not condone any reckless or unlawful driving/ behavior, and therefore any sign of such will result in immediate disqualification.

Participant’s Obligations:
It is the Participant’s responsibility to ensure that their vehicle is registered and safe to operate on public highways in all states and provinces in North America. Passing an event technical inspection does not mean the vehicle is legal on public highways. Only the vehicle’s owner and/or operator can determine that, and/or relevant public legal authority.

Proof of insurance and current government registration with displayed current license plates (or “temporary tags”) are required for entry and must be valid in all jurisdictions that the vehicle will be operated in.

Participants are responsible for their own costs and expenses associated with their participation in the Contest.

Participants are responsible for their own smartphone device and the costs associated with its operation in order to use the E-mazing Race App.

Scoring System:
Participants will be judged using a points-based scoring system. Each participant must register their visits to Sun Country Highway EV Charging Stations and collect the most points to win the event. Charger points are awarded based on location of the EV Charger; with “out of the way” and pre-determined locations receiving higher points. Extra points are awarded for start line and finish line participation; sharing the most photos; generating 100+ followers and receiving 100+ likes. Participants will use a smartphone to register their location and points. Participants must download the Sun Country Highway Navigator App then register for E-mazing Race 2015 (EMR) on the app. Participants must take a picture of their vehicle and themselves in front of each EV charger and post it on the SCH App when “checking in” at a charger. The App check-ins will also be used to track racers on a map and place them on a scoreboard. Scoring will be updated daily on the SCH/EMR App and websites. Results will be summarized at the Finish Line event. Official scoring will be announced within 10 days of contest closing.

Participants are responsible for their check-ins. There is no recourse for check-ins that don’t get recorded. Sun Country Sustainability Fund shall not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate check-ins due to technical error or other causes.

Participants may only register one time (1x) at each host location during the race to receive points. Locations with more than one charger will give points for each individual charging station. The photo at check-in will capture the Participant’s unique identity and GPS location as they visit each Sun Country Highway EV Charging Station.

Prior to race launch; bonus points will be assigned to key regions and sponsor locations across North America. Participants who join start and finish line events will receive bonuses. EMR 2015 will highlight Atlantic Canada with a start from Halifax, Nova Scotia offering bonuses as well as incentives to travel to the eastern-most starting points in Newfoundland and PEI. Chargers across those provinces will have higher point values.
