North Huron approves second Electric Vehicle Charging station.

The Municipality of North Huron is gearing up for the future with the addition of a second electric vehicle charging station.

Chief Administrative Officer Gary Long tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the station will likely be located somewhere along County Road 4 in Wingham.

Long mentions there is an existing charging station in North Huron located at the Old Mill just south of Blyth.

He says Council recently approved an investment of 25-hundred dollars to help set up the new facility being developed by Sun Country Highway.

The company is building what it calls a “green highway” across Canada and currently has locations in Clinton and Exeter.

Long says while there are relatively few electric cars on the roads now — that will change in the future and it makes sense to have the infrastructure in place.

He predicts the charging station will also help encourage travellers to take a longer look at Wingham and North Huron as they’re passing through.

Long says no firm date has been set for the charging station’s opening in Wingham but that a media launch is set for late July.
